Annual High Performance Container Workshop @ISC

The High Performance Container Workshop series assembles thought leaders to provide the 'state of containers' and the latest trends since 2015.

For 2023 the 9th Annual High Performance Container Workshop was accepted as a half-day workshop for the ISC23 and will be held on Thursday 5/25, 2PM - 6PM.

Focus 2023

HPC Container Conformance

In 2022 the HPC community started a project to create a set of annotations for HPC applications and provide guidelines of how HPC container images are build. Two applications were chosen: GROMACS as a HPC application and PyTorch as a AI/ML stand-in. The usual segmentation of the workshop will reflect the effort in the specific segment and will be a thread that spans the workshop.

ISV/Industry

The workshop in 2022 showed that we need to include more industry and ISV's participants in the workshop. I am very happy that Gunther Mayer from Volkswagen will join us and give a talk about the use of containers in the automotive industry and his challenges. We are also looking for more speakers from the industry to join us.

Friends of HPC Containers Boat Trip

After last years successful first incarnation of the Friends of HPC Containers Boat Trip, we are planning to do it again. The date is set to Tuesday, May 23rd in the evening hours - around 6PM. Please mark the evening already! Learn more

Please fill out this google form to sign up for the boat trip. We only got 50 seats on the boat, so please sign up early.

Sponsorship

Platinum Sponsors

UberCloud was one of the founding members of the workshop in 2015 I am very happy that UberCloud decided to help sponsor the boat trip. Thank you very much!

Agenda

Since we only have a half-day workshop, we will slightly shy away from the usual format of sticking to the segments (Run,Build,Orchestration, etc.) and tighten the agenda a bit.

In the first 2h part (before the coffee break) we are going to discuss the HPC Container Conformance project, get project updates from runtimes, touch on interesting developments and have a panel wrapping this section up.

The second part will focus on the different site aspects of containers in HPC with slots from Volkswagen, and sites focusing on public users as well as industry users. The final panel will wrap up the workshop and give a chance for the audience to ask questions.
